SICILY: ONE ISLAND, TWO WHEELS, TWELVE MONTHS OF BEAUTY

Info

An authentic and immersive experience of the Island. A face of Sicily, perhaps still little known, that will surprise you with the extraordinary range of routes and circuits that the Island can offer to lovers of cycling and travel as a pure expression of freedom.

A mini-continent, which encompasses a thousand different landscapes, to be discovered at the pace of your own bicycle, be it a road bike or a mountain bike, enjoying a soft pedal stroke or letting yourself be carried away by the adrenaline rush of more challenging climbs and descents.

A sampling of the many circuits and routes available for two wheels, which you will find collected in the map that can be downloaded here, shows a wide and diversified bicycle touring proposal, capable of crossing Sicily from one side to the other and offering maximum freedom in constructing the itinerary. from a half-day excursion to a week-long vacation, from pedalling among urban architecture and the jewels of antiquity to immersing oneself in unspoiled nature, from the crystal-clear waters of the coast to the heights of Mount Etna.

For experts and families, for groups and individual enthusiasts, Sicily by bike is an adventure to be experienced 365 days a year, to capture the intense emotions of each season.

You can choose the Baroque Tour, which several operators propose to introduce some of the most striking cities of Sicily, such as Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Noto, and Syracuse, breathing in the charm of that atmosphere typical of Montalbano’s places. The Ciclovia dei Parchi instead, crosses the four regional parks (Alcantara, Etna, Nebrodi and Madonie) and the most varied landscapes, dotted with villages that are true pearls, such as Gangi and Cefalù.

You can decide to follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims along the Via Francigena by bike, to cross the heart of the island, or to challenge the climbs of Mount Etna… to discover that the sunrise or sunset at those heights have entirely new and surprising colours.

Let’s take advantage of the various routes dedicated to the west coast, which touch on naturalistic and cultural gems such as Castellammare del Golfo, Segesta, San Vito Lo Capo, Trapani, Erice, Favignana, Marsala, Mazara del Vallo up to the unmissable Selinunte. The trails lead between white beaches with crystal-clear sea and sites of exceptional archaeological interest, among some of the most romantic fishing villages and ancient cities, where the sky at sunset is a gorgeous spectacle.

The most enthusiasts can try their hand at the SIBIT Ciclovia, a veritable network of bicycle routes that runs from Syracuse to Trapani winding through the territories of Sicily’s five southern provinces. But there is no shortage of proposals to be enjoyed even in half a day, which still provide intense experiences, such as the route that runs through the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento: just 25 km to cross more than 3,000 years of history.
