Marettimo – Wreck of the Cannons

Detail

Located at the north end of Punta Libeccio, near Cala Spalmatore, the wreck of an 18th century warship offers an exciting underwater experience. Only 100 metres from the shore and 15 metres deep, the site houses a collection of nine cannons, cannonballs and other metal artefacts.

Immerse yourself in the seascape, with limestone rock, sand and posidonia, as you explore the seven cannons between the rocks and the other two slightly to the west. Among the finds, a leaden ingot and a triangular metal element with a central hole stand out.

In this evocative environment, imagine the events that led to the shipwreck of the ship, possibly a pirate brig destroyed by an explosion. Explore this testimony of the past and let yourself be carried away by the history of these waters.
