The Ecomuseum of Buscemi and Palazzolo Acreide recounts Christmas in the Sicilian folk tradition
Dettaglio
From 27 November 2024 to 12 January 2025, the Buscemi and Palazzolo Acreide Ecomuseum “I luoghi del lavoro contadino e dei mestieri“ proposes an immersive journey into the authentic Sicilian Christmas tradition. This evocative ethnographic itinerary, set in a landscape reminiscent of a timeless nativity scene, recounts the sacred birth through unique testimonies of the popular culture of Iblea.
Among small stone houses, ancient Baroque churches and rocky ruins, the museum offers an enthralling narrative of Sicilian Christmas, recovering symbols and rituals now obscured by modern consumerism. The representation of the Nativity is given particular prominence by the extensive display of traditional nativity scenes: works in ceramics, wood, wheat, bread, copper and terracotta. Prominent among these is the artistic nativity created by Roberto Vanadia of Agrigento, a master of nativity plastic art.
The event will be enriched by documentaries and photographs by Rosario Acquaviva, as well as songs, traditional music and tastings of sweets and ritual breads typical of the Iblei. A unique opportunity to rediscover the authenticity of Sicilian Christmas in a museum context of European significance.
A cultural and sensory experience that combines history, art and faith in the magical atmosphere of Christmas.
