St. George the Martyr’s feast 2023
Info
St. George the Martyr’s feast day offers a wealth of popular tradition and folklore.
The feast features fireworks, the Saint’s ballad, musical performances and the so-called “martiriu“, a figurative procession that recalls the history of the Saint .
The festivity is held on the last Sunday of May or in early June over 3 days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
One of the most evocative moments is the so-called “Ballad of the Saint” when the bearers make the simulacrum of San Giorgio dance, shouting “tutti Truonu!” which means that he is the Patron of the city.
