80th Anniversary of the Allied Landing in Sicily

On the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the Allied landing in Sicily, a series of meetings, forums and events will mark the memory of the so called Operation Husky.
From 27 to 29 March in Piazza Armerina, the International Forum for Peace, Security and Prosperity, celebrating this year its third edition, opens the calendar.
Other major events: May 9, the day of the devastating shelling of Palermo; on 7 and 8 July at the Ciminiere in Catania, Convention “Sicily in the Second World War” with the historians of the Countries most involved in the WW2 (Italy, United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany).
From 8 to 10 July, in Licata, the tourist port closest to the Valley of the Temples, cultural events, musical performances, a fair of typical local products and tastings are scheduled to commemorate the historic landing. The Municipality of Licata, in collaboration with the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples, the Memento Association and the DMO Tourist District Valley of the Temples-Costa del Mito, will inaugurate the first Study Center on the landing in Sicily.
From 10 July “walks” along the places of the invasion, provided with maps marking the points of interest, the testimonies of local insiders, and the route followed by the allied Forces, along the Sicilian coast, from Licata to Augusta. All events are a sort of preliminary stage for a future widespread museum of the Sicilian Campaign of 1943.
In Agrigento, from 12 to 17 July: events, parades, commemorations, conferences and the inauguration of an exhibition at the Archaeological Museum (13 July).
On July 16, a great Peace event in Caltagirone.
