EricèNatale: il Borgo dei Presepi

From 7 December to 6 January, the mediaeval village of Erice is transformed with “EricèNatale – Il Borgo dei Presepi“, an event celebrating the magic of the festive season through tradition, culture and evocative scenery.

The streets of the village welcome a unique atmosphere: Christmas markets enliven Piazza della Loggia and Piazzetta San Giuliano, with local artisans displaying typical ceramics, handmade nativity scenes, sweets and Sicilian recipes. Via Albertina degli Abati is transformed into a corner of the North Pole with Father Christmas’s Little House, where children can deliver their letters and participate in creative workshops.

The cultural programme will be enriched with high-level events at the Gebel Hamed Theatre, which will host jazz concerts and performances for children. The village churches will resound with the warm atmospheres of gospel music, while the Christmas concerts will feature performances by prestigious ensembles.

Erice will also become the hub of the Sicilian nativity tradition: more than 30 handcrafted nativity scenes will be displayed along the village, accompanied by the melodies of pipers. There will also be an exciting living nativity scene, which will involve the local community in the representation of the Nativity.

The most eagerly awaited moment will be New Year’s Eve: Piazza della Loggia will come alive with a big open-air party, including live music, fireworks and a DJ set with Radio Time 90.

The Christmas atmosphere also spreads to the hamlets of Erice: from the workshops in the Gardens of Aromas in Raganzili to the events in Pizzolungo, from the tenth edition of Donare rende felici in Napola to the evocative living nativity scene ‘From the Holy House to Bethlehem’ in Mokarta.

An opportunity to experience Christmas amidst taste, art and tradition, in the heart of one of Sicily’s most fascinating villages.
