Feast of Saint Lucy 2024 in Syracuse

Dettaglio

From 9 to 26 December, Syracuse comes alive with celebrations dedicated to Saint Lucy, the city’s patron saint, in an event that weaves together faith, culture and tradition.
This year, the arrival of the martyr’s body from Venice will make the celebrations even more special, enriched by solemn liturgies, processions and moments of recollection in places that symbolise devotion, such as the Cathedral and the Basilica of Santa Lucia al Sepolcro.

The procession of the simulacrum and relics will take place on 13 December, through the streets of the historical centre to the Basilica al Sepolcro.
The arrival of the Saint’s remains on 14 December will be welcomed with a celebration in the Basilica Santuario della Madonna delle Lacrime, followed by a procession.

The relics will remain in the Cathedral until 26 December, before being transferred to other places in Sicily that venerate Saint Lucy as their patron saint. On 27 December, they will be in Carlentini, on the 28th and 29th in Belpasso and Acicatena, and finally in Catania Cathedral.

On 30 December, the remains will return to Venice.

A unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the spirituality and age-old traditions that make this feast one of the most significant moments in Sicilian religious life.
