16th edition of Presepe Vivente in Termini Imerese

The 16th edition of the Presepe Vivente of Termini Imerese, organised by the Termitana Ecclesial Community, will take place on 22 and 26 December 2024 and 5 January 2025. The event will offer visitors an immersive experience in the heart of the historical centre of Termini Imerese, transforming it into an evocative setting of ancient Palestine.

Accompanied by the shepherds, to whom the announcement of the birth of Jesus was first made, participants will embark on a journey through time, becoming living witnesses of the narrated events. During a tour lasting about two hours, the audience will see detailed historical reconstructions, including King Herod’s palace, the temple in Jerusalem, the Bethlehem marketplace and the Roman camp. The representation culminates in the Bethlehem grotto, where visitors, like shepherds two thousand years ago, will experience moments of deep spirituality and adoration.

The Presepe Vivente scene in Termini Imerese is not only a religious representation, but also an opportunity to rediscover the city’s artistic and historical heritage. Among the symbolic places along the route are the Church of San Giacomo, known as the ‘Spasimo’ of Termini and the ancient Mother Church, and the Church of the Annunziata with its characteristic octagonal tiled dome, which houses the marble nativity scene by Andrea Mancino, the oldest nativity scene in Sicily (1494).

The entrance to the Presepe will be in Piazza Duomo, where visitors will be welcomed by a reproduction of an ancient Roman portal. The route, organised in groups of around 150 people, will end in the evocative Piazza delle Terme, offering an unforgettable journey through faith, history and tradition.
