The Myths of Contemporary Art” exhibition in Catania
Dettaglio
Puglisi Cosentino Foundation opens the new season with the exhibition ‘The Myths of Contemporary Art’, a journey among the great masters of the 20th and 21st centuries. The event is open to the public from 1 November 2024 to 31 May 2025.
The exhibition offers a journey through installations, paintings, sculptures, videos, drawings and graphic works, summarising the work of artists who, since the 1960s, have transformed the very idea of art.
The exhibition explores fundamental movements and currents such as conceptual art, arte povera, behavioural art and abstract art, recounting the research and experiences of leading figures on the international art scene.
Among the artists on show are Sol Lewitt, Marina Abramović, Mario Merz, Ai Weiwei, Vettor Pisani, Alighiero Boetti, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giuseppe Penone, Zhang Hongmei, Franco Politano, Lamberto Pignotti, David Tremlett, Xiao Lu and many others.
A special section will be devoted to contemporary Chinese art, with works testifying to the creative vitality of the Asian scene. In addition, a tribute to Giulio Paolini will present a room entirely dedicated to his works.
The works, which come from prestigious private collections, are distributed over two floors of Palazzo Valle, the Foundation’s historic headquarters, offering a mosaic of languages that narrate the evolution of contemporary art in a unique setting.
In parallel, the Foundation hosts an exhibition dedicated to Frida Kahlo, with period photographs and contemporary works that dialogue with the myth of the Mexican artist.
